The Art of Arleen Schloss and Phoebe Legere's Legendary MONAD * Superior Performance Art * Total Art Synthesis

PHOEBE LEGERE's MONAD, a legendary trailblazer of the East Village scene, was proud to be a featured performance band at A's, 330 Broome Street. A's was created and curated by Arleen Schloss.

While Phoebe and her band Monad were dubbed the "best looking band in New York City" by New York magazine, Phoebe and Monad were more focused on creating a superior level of performance art they dubbed "Total Art Synthesis."

Arleen Schloss born in Brooklyn,  New York  is a North American performance artist, video/film artist, sound poet, director and curator of the Lower Manhattan art, video, performance art and music scenes. Schloss began through A's – an interdisciplinary loft space that became a hub for music, exhibitions, performance art, films and videos. In the 1990s A's became A's Wave where website works and other forms of digital media were shown.

Concurrently with A's, Schloss established herself as a curator, co-organizing shows at Danceteria and The Storefront of Art and Architecture, now an architectural venue in New York.

Schloss operated as a performance artist in the 1970s.  The New York Times stated that her performances were "superior to much performance art,”  and the SoHo Weekly News noted that her voice was "musical the way Patti Smith and Yoko Ono are musical." (from Wikipedia)

Celebrate MONADVember Dedicated To The Greatest & Most Original Band of All Time: Phoebe Legere's MONAD

Please join us as we celebrate MONADVember, an entire month dedicated to honoring the greatest and most original rock band of all time: Phoebe Legere's Monad.

This blog is devoted to Phoebe and her extraordinarily artistic band that revolutionized music and gave birth to what we now know as the "East Village Scene."

Quickly achieving status as a unique and legendary original rock group, Monad marked high-powered milestones including touring with David Bowie, being featured in several major films and recording Legere’s original tunes including ‘Marilyn’ that soared to the top of the college radio charts.

Monad also performed for Phoebe’s “Game Show” that drew standing room only crowds in downtown venues long before the genre became popular.

Phoebe's Monad created opportunities for women in rock. The group developed theatrical events that incorporated engineered sets & dazzling costumes from reclaimed materials in advance of the eco movement.

The sets, the costumes, the social platform, the magic: MONADVember!

The band played every club on the superhot circuit from Limelight to CBGBs and 8BC to Carnegie Hall. Monad played the opening night at famed Pyramid Club.

Thank you, Phoebe, for a remarkable life experience and for the forever to be treasured musical memories!

How will you celebrate MONADVember? We are grateful to Phoebe for the magical artistic moments and the theatrical gems and gold. Thank you for blazing the path for young girls and women to follow. You made their journey far easier. We salute you & we love you!

Musicians and Artists March for Ukraine & the Ukrainian People * Phoebe Legere Leads the Band Outside East Village Veselka

Phoebe Legere Said:

"Yesterday we marched through the East Village singing the Sunflower Song - based on #Ukrainian folk song Oy Marichko - with timely & excellent anti-fascist new lyrics by Stephan Said

"As we stood #singing for  #peace - in support of the people of #Ukraine - in front of Veselka :: Beceлкa - Stephan said: You don't think a song can change the world but it CAN!" And for those few hours of happiness, it did.

"Note iconic hero artist Pat Olesko upper left in her Sunflower costume. I think there are some great photos of the march. Cheryl Pyle who plays a mean piccolo btw, may have a photo of me leading some young children singing Tra La La - No photo can capture the happiness and hope we felt yesterday. You just had to be there.

"Thank you to Honk & Stephan for organizing this ecstatic & profound demonstration of empathy & collective feeling - Love & Courage to our good friends in #Ukraine."
