Phoebe Legere & Patti Rothberg: Team Up For April 25th Concert In Kingston

We survived the belly of the beast so we could play for you in a living room.

🖤
April 25th. Kingston, NY.
I’m teaming up with the brilliant Patti Rothberg— We are two songwriters who walked through the fire of the 90s major label machine. A lot of people got swallowed by that greed-crazed, drug-fueled circus. They expired. They went mad.
But Patti and I? We loved the music too much to die. So we just kept writing. Kept carrying our own amps. Kept surviving.
We’ve both been on Letterman. We’ve both tasted the "tech support" of the big time. But we were probably just a few minutes too smart—and too New York—to let the culture-crushing machine dumb us down. Did we scare the pants off dumbell executives with our musicianship and ultra-curvy humor? Yes. Yes we did.
I wrote my song “GIRL POWER” (currently #11 on the Canadian Groover chart) to commemorate our friendship. I’ll be playing that, plus guitar, accordion, piano, Native American flute and Billy Idol’s Steinway. Patti will be doing what she does best—honest, self-effacing guitar brilliance that must be heard to be believed.
This is word-of-mouth only. No corporate filter. Just two survivors swapping songs in an intimate room.

Noise & Flesh: Crisis of the Image

Noise & Flesh: Crisis of the Image confronts a cultural moment defined by collapse and saturation: a contracting art market, political disorientation, and images emptied of meaning by data, theory, and trend. Curated by Legere and presented by the Foundation for New American Art at Westbeth Art Center, the exhibition unites modern masters — Larry Rivers, Peter Beard, Alice Neel, Anthony Haden-Guest — with contemporary visionaries, seeking not escape, but illumination: a way forward through noise, toward flesh, soul, and the miracle of being human. Experience it at 55 Bethune Street, NYC, or worldwide on Bloomberg Connects beginning April 1.

Gender Symphony

Born from a 2023 residency at the Emily Harvey Foundation in Venice, Italy, this award-winning experimental film is a fearless collision of Hegelian philosophy, Commedia dell'Arte, feminist politics, and pure avant-garde fire. Performed on the streets of Venice in costumes crafted from canal detritus, it tears through gender roles, fluidity, and power dynamics — driven by Legere's original score spanning Brechtian cabaret, avant-electronica, dubstep, and death metal. Hand-drawn and 3D animation weave through a living, breathing symphony of fluid identity and rebellion.

Winner of Best Art Film at Cannes Arts Fest, Best Story at the LA LGBTQ+ Film Festival, Gold Winner at the Paris Film Awards, and celebrated at festivals from Tokyo to Athens to Berlin — Gender Symphony screens March 8 at the Every Woman Biennial, Pen + Brush, 29 East 22nd Street, NYC.

Public Arts Programs

Legere brings music, art, and performance directly to the children and families who need it most. These free multilingual workshops serve underserved, unresourced, and underrepresented communities — offering world-class creative education with the same fearless spirit that drives all of Legere's work.

Mondays & Thursdays 3:30–5:30 PM at Theater for the New City, NYC

Saturdays 1–2:30 PM at T Building, Painting Studio 4, Queens

This is what it looks like when an artist gives everything — to the canvas, the stage, the screen, the street, and the next generation.

"Phoebe Legere Tribune" Now on Substack! Subscribe to Gain VIP Access To Phoebe's Art/Music/Events/Views/Happenings & More

Subscribe for a glimpse into a world forgotten by time and sterilized memory: a diary unearthed from the concrete hell of Alphabet City, where dreams broke against needles and shadows stretched long over crumbling squats - the real East Village as we lived and loved it.

Teenage Weimar is a sound installation created from excerpts from my autobiography underscored with my musical compositions. These are the words of a teenage runaway caught in the undertow of a collapsing city. Civilization was dying. I was living in a burned out squat between Ave. C and D. No water. No electricity. No phone. No heat. No locks.

What follows is a snapshot of the wreckage. There were thousands of runaway kids in Alphabet City. I’m one of the very few that survived to adulthood. Press play, and step inside.

The Phoebe Legere Tribune: Legere is an electric, honest, and independent voice using Art to challenge the power
dynamics of the global billionaireocracy.
