Bittersweet Performance at The Plough and Stars in Cambridge By Phoebe Legere for Justine Covault

The Creator, Magician Wizard of Immortal Love is always guiding my steps.... surprising me with tricks, mirrors and hard problems.

The sudden Death of Justine Covault, a great rocker girl who was the heart and soul of her community, left me speechless with grief and confusion.

Justine and I were planning to embark on the “Strong Woman Tour” of New England. I posted it here on FB(see below). Our photos were printed in 80 local papers.

We planned a little kick off gig at the Plough and Stars in Cambridge.

Justine, young & full of life, departed.

Now the gig at the Plough was a sea of weeping boys and girls.

I wrote “Bury Me in Massachusetts” for Justine the week before – just to make her laugh.

Now the song seemed oddly prescient.

I sang it anyway --for the mass of mourners,

and followed it with When the Saints Go Marching In.

Please join us as we celebrate MONADVember, an entire month dedicated to honoring the greatest and most original rock band of all time: Phoebe Legere's Monad.

This blog is devoted to Phoebe and her extraordinarily artistic band that revolutionized music and gave birth to what we now know as the "East Village Scene." 

Quickly achieving status as a unique and legendary original rock group, Monad marked high-powered milestones including touring with David Bowie, being featured in several major films and recording Legere’s original tunes including ‘Marilyn’ that soared to the top of the college radio charts. 

Monad also performed for Phoebe’s “Game Show” that drew standing room only crowds in downtown venues long before the genre became popular. 

Phoebe's Monad created opportunities for women in rock. The group developed theatrical events that incorporated engineered sets & dazzling costumes from reclaimed materials in advance of the eco movement.

The sets, the costumes, the social platform, the magic: MONADVember!

The band played every club on the superhot circuit from Limelight to CBGBs and 8BC to Carnegie Hall. Monad played the opening night at famed Pyramid Club.

Thank you, Phoebe, for a remarkable life experience and for the forever to be treasured musical memories!
