Triumph of the American Art Spirit: The Acker Awards conquered the dark forces
of death, materialism, and stupidity. We stood together, with love, and cheered
for risk-taking, avant-garde," said Phoebe Legere.
A Poem By Phoebe Legere:
"The BIllyburg Bridge" _
People like us are often misunderstood
We ride rusty old bikes that make too much noise
It’s embarrassing.
Half famous, we glide over the Billyburg bridge
Or live in caves
Inglorious shame of unrecognized genius
Forlorn, solitary, chronically depressed but somehow
Happy,
in the rich shifty flux
Of Art's strong bliss
My brain brush winds,
through dark mazes,
Streets, Avenues.
New York is a Holy Book
Whose messages are written
In every star, leaf,
rock, cock, nipple,
and river.
